Can an Owner Request a Deposit Outside the Platform?
boatUnity offers a "non-withheld guarantee" for all listings. This "non-withheld guarantee" is the only security deposit allowed for a rental on our plateform. The amount of this guarantee is not charged to the payment method used for the reservation and its amount is set by the owner or captain.
In case of damage, and following a request from the owner, the non-withheld guarantee may be partially or fully paid to the owner after the resolution of a dispute.
Individual owners and co-navigation captains agree not to demand any other deposit, in any form, from the renter. If an owner or captain requests an additional deposit before the reservation, we recommend that you immediately cancel your reservation and report this non-compliant practice to us.
In the case of a rental from a professional owner or a charter company, they manage their own deposit and damage claims. boatUnity does not have the authority to intervene in the management of these claims and deposits. However, our resolution center is available to assist the owner and/or the renter as a mediator if necessary.
